Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood of Kansas & Mid-Missouri has a tremendous opportunity for a Counselor/Patient Educator in Overland Park, Kansas. This position is full time position and hourly with 37.5 hours per week schedule. The hours are Tuesday, 11 a.m. 7 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. 2 p.m.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing patients with education, consultation and screenings concerning reproductive healthcare in a comfortable, unbiased, non-judgmental, and confidential setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Review completed charts for compliance with agency protocols and procedures;
- Help the client come to an independent decision about which choice is right for her;
- Dispense accurate information about the procedures including the risks and benefits;
- Obtain informed consent on all procedures; accurately complete all necessary paperwork in conjunction with planned procedure involvement;
- Provide referrals to other health organizations/agencies with documents, brochures and handouts;
- Provide informed consent counseling to ensure that the client understands and agrees to her medical care and that the client makes voluntary decisions in the absence of coercion;
- Provide support to administrative and client services;
Provide appointment scheduling and receptionist backup;
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum education and experience required.
- Associates degree or six months to one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year experience in a healthcare or social service setting that focused on client or customer service.
Preferred education and experience
- Bachelors degree in social work, social services, or psychology.
- Two or more years experience in counseling particularly in a healthcare setting.
